PES Syllabus


  • COURSE DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS:

The Sport Specified Physical Education class at Dorman High School is for athletes to prepare for their upcoming season or in-season training. You must currently be on a Dorman Athletic roster and have completed the previous season in your specific sport.

  • ACTIVITIES:

Students will be actively involved in warm ups, weight lifting, conditioning, speed work and agility drills, nutrition education and character development.

  • MATERIALS NEEDED:

Athletic shoes, shorts, t-shirts, and socks are required every day. 

**Students’ dress out clothes must comply with school dress policy!**

  • GRADING SCALE/ POLICY
    • 90-100 = A, 80-89 = B, 70-79 = C, 60-69 = D, 59 and below = F
    • 20 points per day/ 100 points per week
      • 5 points= Dress out (t-shirt, shorts or sweatpants, socks, athletic shoes)
        • No Crocs or Hey Dudes, etc.
      • 10 points=  Participation (Warm Up, completing ALL the activities/lifts/reps assigned
  • In accordance with school policy, NO CELL PHONES will be allowed in the weight room.
  • Points taken off will be noted in PowerSchool
    • 5 points=  Effort-Attitude
      • Each group will be required to straighten their rack at the end of the training session or as directed by the strength coaches
    • Unexcused absences will count as ZEROS. Students have the opportunity for a make up workout during free time once per week.
    • Students unable to physically participate due to sickness must have a note from home. This will require makes up unless there is a medical excuse
  • FAILURE TO DRESS OUT/ PARTICIPATE IN CLASS ACTIVITIES
  • 1ST Time: Students will be warned, 20 points off daily grade and documented in power school.
  • 2nd Time: Parental Contact, 20 points off daily grade and documented in power school.
  • 3rd Time and each time thereafter: REFERRAL to office & 20 points off daily grade
  • ATHLETIC TRAINING ROOM POLICY
    • Athletes will check in with strength staff and have a pass written for the trainer.
    • To return to class you will have a pass from the trainer with time and limitations to continue in class
  • Doctor’s notes are required for extended illness or injury.
  • If you are injured and do not have a doctor’s note you will be evaluated by the DHS trainer.
  • Lower body injury rehab- lift upper body /Upper body injury rehab- lift lower body.






  • IN-SEASON TRAINING POLICY
  • Athletes will train in-season.   
  • In-season guidelines:
    • Varsity Game Today:
      • All sets EXCEPT LAST SET
      • ½ Reps as Prescribed
      • Weights set by strength staff
    • Varsity Game tomorrow:
      • Sets as prescribed
      • ½ Reps as prescribed
      • Weights as prescribed
    • NO Varsity game today/tomorrow
      • Sets as prescribed
      • Reps as prescribed
      • Weights as prescribed
    • JV will lift/condition (train) no matter if it is game day, the day before, or not
 
  • OTHER
  • No food allowed (only a water bottle with a lid)  in the New Gym or Weight Room
  • Lock up all valuables in your assigned locker
  • NO CELL PHONES!!!
