About Me

Welcome to Dorman Freshman Campus and 9th Grade Civics! I'm Anna Sullivan, and I have been teaching at Dorman since 2012. I graduated from USC Spartanburg with a Bachelors in History, attended Clemson for my Masters in History, and obtained my teaching certification from USC Upstate. I've always loved teaching — there's nothing like watching students realize how much government and citizenship actually affect their daily lives. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and reading, especially historical fictions and anything set in the lowcountry South Carolina! I'm looking forward to a great year, and I'm always happy to answer questions — feel free to reach out anytime.

Course Overview

9th Grade Civics introduces students to the foundations of American citizenship and government. Throughout the year, students will explore what it means to be a citizen, how the U.S. Constitution structures and limits government power, and how the branches of government work together — and check one another — to govern the country.

Each unit combines direct instruction, guided reading from the textbook, hands-on activities, and a project that lets students apply what they've learned. Students will leave this course with a working knowledge of how American government functions and a stronger sense of their own role as engaged, informed citizens.

Materials Needed for Class

•         A 3-ring binder (preferred) or a notebook
•         Paper and pencil
•         Optional: colored pencils or markers (helpful for some projects, but not required — a classroom set is available to borrow)

Google Classroom

Class notes, textbook pages, project instructions, and reading guides are posted on Google Classroom. This is meant as a backup and reference — for students who were absent, lost a paper copy, or want to double-check something — not as the primary way material is taught.

In the event an E-Learning day is announced, class assignments will be posted on Google Classroom.
